Hello loves,

Recently, I have been trying out an anti-inflammatory diet. For years, I have suffered from headaches. It was getting to the point where I would have a headache more days out of the week than not. This summer, I experienced brutal migraines that lasted up to 4 days at a time that kept me bedridden and unable to do anything. It got to the point where I was barely functioning in my day to day life because I was always in pain. So in September, I went to a naturopath and he suggested that it may be caused by my diet. I was introduced to an anti-inflammatory diet that would help my headaches and migraines and I can honestly say that I have been headache-free for 6 weeks. I cannot remember the last time before now that I was headache-free for even 6 days. It’s like this diet was a miracle cure for me. I don’t know if it would help everyone but it definitely helped me and I plan to continue doing it with some exceptions.

My diet consists of no dairy except for aged cheeses and butter. No wheat or oats, basically all grains are out of the picture. I can only eat grass-fed beef and free-range chicken and eggs. I cut out tomatoes and potatoes that only now I am beginning to introduce back into my diet again. I can only have olive oil, coconut oil and avocado oil as far as oils go and especially no canola oil! I am not allowed peanut butter or any packaged foods so my alternative has been almond butter. I can’t have caffeine or alcohol so I have switched to decaf coffee and tea and when I want pop, I crush some raspberries and put it in some carbonated water, it’s delicious. I am not allowed any sugar except for natural sugars that come from fruit and such. This has been my biggest struggle so far but I know that sugar is a trigger for my headaches so it has made it a little easier to stay away from it. As a substitute for sugar, I use honey or dark maple syrup. Along with this diet, I have been having fish oil and supplements to encourage my body to feel better.

I am now at the point where I can eat 80% anti-inflammatory and 20% however I want and it is going really well. I encourage anyone who may be experiencing any kind of an inflammatory pain to consider this diet as it has helped me so much and I can actually function and get out of bed in the mornings.

brühe is a local food stand in Ramsay, Calgary that has a ton of options for someone on an anti-inflammatory diet. I picked up their coconut sourdough and buckwheat sourdough that are so yummy and now I can actually have sandwiches and toast with everyone else in my family. Their grilled cheese sandwich is so yummy along with their hot cocoa that is dairy free and refined sugar-free. They also have some other options that I cannot wait to try as well as some ice cream for those of you who aren’t on a restricted diet. I love brühe so much and it makes me feel like I can still have all my cravings without cheating on my diet. I encourage you to check it out if you have any dietary restrictions or if you are interested in some healthy but super yummy food.

I know this post is a little more personal than normal and not as exciting but I thought I would share a big transition in my life that has improved my health so much! Let me know in the comments if you liked it and would like to see more posts like this.

Love,

Lolo
